Ephesians 4:32
Be Kind to One Another
And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other.
Kindness is usually small.
It is letting somebody go first. It is sharing the good crayons. It is noticing that somebody is sitting on their own, and going to sit with them.
Nobody claps. Most of the time nobody even sees. Kindness is quiet like that.
But kindness is the thing people remember about you for years afterwards. Ask a grown up about somebody who was kind to them when they were small. They will still know the name.
The verse asks for one more thing: forgiving each other. That is the hardest kind of kindness, and in a family it is the one that matters most.
Something to talk about: Who was kind to you today? Who can you be kind to tomorrow?
A prayer together
God, help me to be kind, even when nobody is watching. Help me forgive people, the way you forgive me. Amen.
